As an author, consultant to churches and a coach to a host of others who have been caught in the cycle of addiction and recovery, I help others achieve Whole Life Recovery. This recovery supports people as they get freedom from addiction and move forward into their destiny.

It was my battle with alcohol and recovery through a 12-step process and submission to God that led me to this passion for helping others. After years of working in recovery, I realized three things: First, relapse and recidivism are rampant. Second, over half of the clients I ministered to had already completed one or more treatment programs. Third, they had enough head knowledge to start their own treatment programs. What was missing? Many clients knew the Twelve Steps were of God, but often they had not discovered an intimate relationship with the God of the Twelve Steps. I knew it was a personal relationship with God that my clients were missing. This led me to write Beyond Recovery—a fresh look at the 12 steps from a biblical, Christ-centered perspective.

In 1992, I launched the Discovery Group, a confidential, caring group addressing American addiction. Discovery Group has impacted thousands of lives for good.

I have also served as a senior pastor, providing trans local oversight to other pastoral leaders. As a personal equipper, I support emerging leaders and pastors using principles I’ve learned during my 50+ years of ministry.

I earned an undergraduate degree in religion from the University of Mobile, and I am a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor through the National Christian Counselors Association.

My wife Linda is a vital part of my ministry. We have seven adult children and 14 grandchildren.
